Canada Certificate Attestation for the UAE

Since Canada joined the Hague Apostille Convention in January 2024, Global Affairs Canada issues an apostille for Canadian documents — but UAE bodies typically still require UAE Embassy Ottawa and MOFA Dubai on top. Benchmark manages both stages.

Does Canada's Hague Convention membership change UAE requirements?

Not entirely. A Notary Public certifies the document, some provinces — BC, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan — require provincial authentication first, Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa applies the apostille, then the UAE Embassy in Ottawa and MOFA Dubai complete UAE acceptance. The GAC apostille alone is rarely accepted by UAE ministries, even though Canada's 2024 Hague membership changed the domestic Canadian process itself.

02

Why it matters

UAE employment visas, DHA/DoH/KHDA licensing, family visa sponsorship and Golden Visa applications all require attested Canadian documents through the full chain, not the apostille alone — this is the detail most applicants misunderstand after the 2024 change.

03

When you need it

Canadian degrees need this chain for KHDA/DHA/MOH licensing and UAE university admission — this is where our degree certificate attestation workflow applies to Canadian qualifications. Provincial vital records — birth, marriage and death certificates — need it for family visa sponsorship, which is where marriage certificate attestation becomes the key downstream step. RCMP police clearance is required for UAE Golden Visa and long-stay applications, again only in hard-copy form. Corporate documents — Articles and Certificates of Standing — follow the same route for UAE business use.

04

What to prepare, and what causes rejection

You will typically need the original Canadian document, a colour scan of your passport bio page and UAE visa or entry stamp, a signed authorisation letter if a family member or agent holds the original in Canada, and a purpose letter where required.

BC, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan documents need provincial authentication before Global Affairs Canada will accept them — skipping this is the most common rejection point for Canadian documents. Only the hard-copy RCMP Criminal Record Certificate can be attested — the electronic PDF is not accepted. Any name mismatch between certificate, passport and Emirates ID blocks downstream UAE applications. And photocopies and laminated originals must be re-issued before attestation can proceed.

Why Canadian documents route through Benchmark

Canada's 2024 shift to the Hague Convention changed the paperwork at the Canadian end, but not the UAE requirement — the apostille still needs the embassy and MOFA stamps on top. We keep track of which province needs authentication before Global Affairs Canada, since that step trips up documents from several provinces specifically. Free collection from Oud Metha and across Dubai keeps your side simple.
