Family Visa In UAE

Dubai is one of the most popular cities globally, attracting families, businessmen, students, and professionals from all across the globe. However, many individuals moving to Dubai struggle with getting a spouse visa or children’s visa for their family members.

No need to worry! We’ve simplified the new family visa requirements for Dubai residents.

Dubai Family Visa Requirements

In April 2019, the UAE updated its family visa requirements. According to the new regulations, the educational or professional background is no longer the deciding factor for family visas. Now, the conditions are solely dependent on the resident’s income.

Before this amendment came about, the policy stated that the individual (male resident) requesting the family visa needed to be part of any profession other than domestic help or similar professions. They were also required to earn a monthly income of at least AED 4,000 or AED 3,000 plus accommodation. The minimum monthly income requirement for women sponsoring their families was AED 10,000. Moreover, expats from only certain professions were allowed to apply for family visas.

This is no longer the case with the new UAE family visa rules. As of April 2019, male residents from any profession can apply for a Dubai family visa. Whether you hold a college degree, are a manager at an organization, or are part of the service industry, your application for family sponsorship will be considered as long as your minimum monthly income is still AED 4,000 or AED 3,000 plus accommodation.

For females sponsoring their families, the requirement states that they must have a monthly income of AED 10,000 or AED 8,000 plus accommodation. Despite this, however, they’re still required to have a specific professional background when applying for family visas. If you have a residence permit stating your profession as a teacher, engineer, doctor, or nurse, then you’re eligible to apply for a family visa. Suppose you aren’t employed in any of these industries. In that case, as long as your monthly income exceeds AED 10,000, you can still request a family visa after getting approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).

In addition to this, expats can now request sponsorship for sons over the age of 18, which was previously not allowed.

What You’ll Need to Submit:

To apply for a family visa for your immediate family members, such as spouse, children, and parents, you’ll need to submit a few documents. These include

  • IDs of each family member
  • Attested Marriage certificate
  • Attested Birth certificates of children
  • Proof of monthly income
  • Proof of housing
  • Health insurance

For wives wishing to sponsor their children, a written agreement from their husbands is required. Divorced or widowed women must provide a divorce or death certificate to prove their custody claim.

Family Visa Renewal

Renewing a family visa in the United Arab Emirates involves a few steps, and the specific requirements and procedures may vary depending on the emirate where you reside.

Here are the general steps to renew a family visa in the UAE

Check the validity of the current visa: Before starting the renewal process, ensure that the current family visa is still valid. Family visas typically must be renewed every two or three years, depending on the emirate.

Apply for the renewal: To apply for the renewal, you must visit the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) office in your emirate. You must fill out an application form and provide supporting documents, such as a passport copy, Emirates ID copy, and salary certificate.

Undergo medical examination: All family members renewing their visas must undergo a medical exam at an approved medical center or hospital. This is to ensure that they are free from infectious diseases.

Obtain the new visa: Once the application is approved and the medical examination is cleared, the new visa will be issued. You must pay the visa fees and collect the visa from the GDRFA office.

Update Emirates ID: After obtaining the new visa, you must update the Emirates ID of all family members. You can do this at an Emirates ID center.

It is important to note that the specific requirements and procedures for renewing a family visa may vary depending on the emirate and your particular situation. It is recommended to consult with the GDRFA office or a legal professional for guidance on the specific requirements and procedures for your situation.
